Field of study and career

The field of study I want to pursue is the study of psychology. The psychological study is the study of human’s behaviour, thought process and about their emotions. Psychologist basically studies deeply about human’s brain functions, memory, consciousness, reasoning, personality, language etc. They also study human experience and well being. Another field I’m interested in is Sociology which is very similar to the field of psychology. Sociology is a very diverse and interesting subject to study. It mainly focuses on socio-culture, social interactions and follows the patterns of social culture. The study can extend to race, poverty, crime, law, education etc. Sociologiest usually manage many interviews to research about society and social behaviour. Sociologist research looking into roups, cultures, organizations etc. Also, surveys are a valuable tool used in the sociology research method and also by social scientists. By the research and study, they explore how social influences and leaves an impact on different individuals and groups.

Jobs available

Jobs that are available in the field of psychology are clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist, high-intensity therapist, health psychologist etc. The most common careers in this path are clinical psychology, psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, or privet counselling. It is estimated that the demand for psychologists would increase by 14% by 2026. For sociologist jobs that are available are business analyst, consumer relations specialist, human resource manager, market analyst, management consultant etc. In addition to that, there is a high demand for sociology employees with research skills, writing skills and critical thinking.

Educational requirements

Educational requirements for psychologists would be additional 2 years after the undergraduate degree, while the duration of the study might extend to another 7 years long according to your study process and target. Clinical psychology requires a doctorate degree but few people are able to find a job with just a master’s degree. There is two doctorate degree you can get in clinical psychology; PhD (doctor of philosophy in psychology) or PsyD (doctor of psychology). Some of the core classes that are required in clinical psychology are Cognitive psychology, social psychology, history of psychology, developmental/child development, abnormal psychology, statistic, English etc.

Following, an internship is required for gaining experiences and knowledge and for learning practically. And then attempting professional practice in psychology and other additional exams that are required by the institution in order to earn the license.

Responsibility

Clinical psychologist seeks to understand the patient’s situation, thoughts, feelings, mental health and behaviour. The psychologist uses the technique of understanding the patient thoroughly by observation or assessment to develop theories. The typical responsibility for a psychologist is; interview, observe, research and identify a behavioural or emotional pattern, discuss the treatment of problems with the patient or client, counselling and most importantly maintain privacy.

Skills required in clinical psychologist are; Strong knowledge of psychology, critical thinking, decision making, researching methods, communication skills, cultural diversity awareness etc.
