For me, I understand that leadership means you must help people around you. A good leader knows how to make others work together and achieve what they want. I learned this not from books but from my own experience with different people and activities. When I see someone needs help, I always try to step up and do something about it. As a first-year student facing a complex group project in Environmental Science, I volunteered to coordinate a team of 15 students. I am someone who goes the extra mile just to make people happy and be in a stable mental state because I see a leader as placing others' interests above yours.

My commitment to servant leadership has led me to various positions of responsibility. This principle led me to hold leadership positions on campus. Being a member of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria while serving as a corp member, our team helped clean up areas in three local governments every month. We reached many community members, and during the 2022 flood crisis, we helped affected families with the supplies they needed. We contributed money and bought items to donate to motherless babies' homes. This was challenging for me based on some constraints like time and finance, but I pushed on to complete the task because my leadership quality kept pushing me for it.

My leadership journey continued in professional settings. While I was working in the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency as a national service member, my leadership qualities gave me the privilege to be a leader. Specifically, when a dispute arose between departments over project timelines, I initiated a collaborative meeting format that brought together 12 staff members from different units, which helped solve the delays in our work and made things move faster. It was funny when my boss told me I was leading some staff in the agency when I was not even a staff because of the way I handled a situation in the agency.

In student organizations, I found new opportunities to develop and share leadership skills. I held positions as a multimedia secretary at Redeemed Christian Fellowship. Managing a team of 6 content creators, we produced weekly multimedia content reaching over 200 students. It was also a challenging one because this Christian fellowship was filled with students. I came up with a one-day lecture for them to understand that they were potential leaders of different spheres and that leaders do not act the way other people do but set standards for people to follow by displaying leadership skills. Many students came to the workshop, and after some time, most of them became leaders in different campus activities and took on leadership roles in various campus activities. I was happy that after my sections with my teammates, everyone was already a leader doing things at the right time, and my multimedia team was the best multimedia on campus; other fellowships multimedia teams came to us for training and advice.

My role expanded further into financial leadership positions. Also, I was the financial secretary of Eden Corpers Fellowship Lagos, Enactus (ENtrepreneurial ACtion US) in the Federal University of Technology Owerri branch. Enactus is an NGO that provides a platform team of outstanding university students to create a community development project that puts people's talents at the center of improving their livelihoods. During my one-year tenure, I managed a budget of ₦500,000, successfully funding five community development projects that impacted over 300 local residents. During my tenure, I have financed most of the community development services projects through the proper management of finance.

Looking ahead, I see the Chevening Scholarship as a crucial next step in my leadership journey. My work in different organizations showed me that Nigeria needs more young leaders. The Chevening Scholarship will give me a chance to study in the UK and learn new things about leadership. I want to study for an MSc in International Development because it will help me understand how to make better changes in my community. My experience with the Red Cross Society and Enactus taught me about helping people, but I need more knowledge to do bigger projects. After my studies, I want to help other young people in Nigeria become leaders, too. I will use what I learned from the UK to train youth in my community, just like I did in Christian Fellowship but on a bigger scale. Many young people in Nigeria have good ideas, but they need someone to show them how to do things. In the future, I want to help young people from different states in Nigeria become good leaders who can make positive changes in their communities. With the help of the Chevening master's degree scholarship, all my plans will be a success.
