Why Is College Important Essays

As Benjamin Franklin, one of the four Founding Fathers once said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Acquiring a bachelor’s or master’s degree is indeed expensive however not going to college can indeed be crushing in the long-term. It can strip you of the opportunity of changing society or satisfying your needs. I believe college is important to me because it is a necessary investment in my future.

They say high school is indeed a competitive environment. Well, you can argue that I have experienced an extreme example of that idea. Graduating from Allen High School, I was just one of the 1681 students in our 2019 high school graduating class. Going to that big of an institution taught myself that indeed the world is very competitive and that time stops for no one. To thrive in today’s society, you must be prepared in any certain scenario. Achieving a high school diploma was a step in the path of attaining a college degree. Now that I have graduated high school, I believe a sound mindset of what career and field I would like to be working in. But in order to do so, I believe attaining a college degree provides the best opportunity to get there.

Living in 2019, I have seen the impact of holding a college degree and how the benefits outweigh the risks. In today’s society, we need leaders who are capable of finding solutions to global issues, working with individuals from different backgrounds and acknowledging others’ situations to work together. After 12 years of school, I feel somewhat exhausted going through pre-school, elementary school, middle school and high school. But I also feel that my road to acquiring more education hasn’t hit a roadblock yet. There is still so much for me to learn about the great world we live in. And while I attempt to pursue a master’s degree, I recognize that companies and institutions are hiring individuals with an associate’s degree, I believe that any individual should gain the highest level of education because it is vital to yourself, your friends and family, and your society.

In today’s society, earning a college degree can present many opportunities. It can lead us to a better job. It can lead us to a stable career. It can lead us to a more prosperous life. It can improve our health. But the beauty of receiving a college degree is that it can open up so many new careers that we might not have been aware of. This is especially important because in today’s careers and sectors, there are many fields of work overlapping into different industries. A student can obtain a business degree and still work in the STEM sector. A student can obtain a psychology degree and work in a business corporation. Earning a college diploma can be a gateway to a professional job, regardless of field.

For some, going to college sounds great yet they are still skeptical whether the benefits outweigh the risks. Going to college is very, very expensive. Tuition at a public university hovers around 10 grand a year, while private universities’ tuition costs three or more times that. It is costly to pay around roughly six-figures total over a span of six years. But it is increasingly becoming necessary to earn a college degree in today’s world. But like Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge pays best interest” meaning that taking another step with acquiring more education in getting a college degree will lead to a more prosperous life.

College is important and necessary to me. While earning a college degree is the goal, I also believe that college will improve my social skills and confidence skills. I am sincerely looking forward to start my college journey and follow my dreams and goals. I am confident that with earning a college degree in the near future will prepare me to face the world and to also contribute as a productive member in our society.
